Description
This ebook is for anyone curious about pattern drafting, and especially for those who want to draft trousers. It is meant to be a practical tool to understand how trousers are built, guiding you step by step through the process of creating a custom pair.
The goal is to cover all the basics so that, by the end, there is a solid understanding of trouser anatomy and the confidence to start experimenting with new ideas. This ebook is packed with information and follows a logical order from start to finish.
- Level: This ebook is written so no prior knowledge is necessary. However, drafting patterns and specifically trousers, is difficult in general. Prior sewing or drafting knowledge is always a plus
- Gender: All the drafting instructions work for all genders but take into account that male and female bodies are different. The patterns are drafted for the standard body shape – hourglass figure with a non prominent buttocks. There is information on how to adapt for other bodies and shapes
- Fabric: All the instructions are based on woven fabrics (fabrics without elasticity). Tight fitting trousers such as “skinny jeans” are not covered as those use elastic fabrics
- Units: this book uses Metric system (cm) but has been adapted to Imperial (inches). The conversion rates are rounded slightly to make them user friendly
What this ebook is not: This ebook does not include sewing instructions, ready-to-use patterns, or detailed design breakdowns (with the exception of 3 examples)
How the book is structured:
-
Break down your dream design: what foundation to use, what leg-line, waist-line, etc.
-
Take body measurements to ensure a perfect fit
-
Draft the 4 essential foundation blocks, the Culottes, Trousers, Slacks and Jeans
-
Tackle fitting issues using a dedicated troubleshooting chapter
-
Adjust waistlines, length and leg shapes to suit any style
-
Choose and draft the right details, things like pockets, the fly, yokes and more
- Finish the design by adding seam allowances and all the necessary information to store the pattern
With this ebook, trousers pattern-making finally becomes simple, clear, and completely within your reach
