Basic Sewing Blocks

Welcome to the Basic Sewing Blocks library. Here I’ll add the drafting instructions for the patterns I’ve mastered. Books normally come with the following patterns: 2 top blocks, 1 skirt block, 1 trouser block, 1 sleeve block. But I believe there are many more, so I’ll use this page to add them and make it easier to the public to draft their own patterns.

You can expect to find 3 Tops, 3 Skirts, 3 Sleeves, 4 Trousers and a lot of other things like dungarees, sportswear, underwear, swimming gear and many more. As always, let me know if you would like to learn more and I’ll make sure to add them for you!

Basic Top Blocks

These are the Top basic sewing blocks. Once you have them you’ll be able to make tops, shirts, t-shirts, dresses, jackets and much more! Check out the Drafting 101 theory to create your designs.

Basic Skirts Blocks

Moving into the skirt basic sewing blocks. These are the perfect basic patterns to have by themselves or to add to your top patterns and create beautiful dresses. To modify the patterns check out the Drafting 101 theory.

Basic Sleeves Blocks

Before making this pattern you’ll need some measurements from your top pattern so make sure you have that one close by. Sleeves are a really fun way to add special features to your top patterns so check out the Drafting 101 to see how you can modify them.

Basic Trousers Blocks

Pants are (in my opinion) the most difficult pattern to get right. We all have different abdomen/buttocks shape and it’s difficult to have a drafting technique that suits everyone. When making these patterns you need patience and a LOT of prototypes but I promise you, it’s worth it! I’ll never have to buy another pair of trousers ever again.
