This are the Free Jewellery Box Sewing Pattern drafting instructions. In here I’ll give you all the measurements and instructions to create this beautiful bag!
This bag is the perfect project to do if you have a lot of tiny scraps at home. It’s a little quilted pouch where you can store all your jewels. It’s perfect to have at home or to travel with because it’s suuuper compact (8 x 8 x 4cm / 3″ x 3″ x 1,5″). On the top part you can find 3 necklace/bracelet holders with a little bag to keep them untangled. Also on the top part, there is a ring holder with plenty of capacity.
At the bottom part of the box you can find a little bag where you can put all those random jewels that are bigger than normal and difficult to store. Also at the bottom, there is some foam to leave some smaller earrings or more rings if you have too many to fit at the top. Finally, the pattern comes with a piece to hold those long earring separately!
If what you’re looking for is an “easy way out” to drafting the pieces, you can also purchase the pattern in my Etsy shop. What’s included in the pattern:
- The pdf pattern of the box with seam allowances included
- Step-by-step instructions with clear graphics

Step 1 – Interface
Interface all the pieces that need it and add the batting layer if you are quilting your own fabric
Step 2 – Necklace and Ring holders
Create the necklace and ring holders
- Put right sides together
- Sew along the edge with the seam allowance of 1cm (3/8″)
- Clip around the curve
- Turn the pieces to their right sides and press them flat
- Add the snap button of your preference
- For Ring holder only: add the Polyester filling
Step 3 – Necklace bag
Create the little bag that will hold the hanging bracelets and necklaces
- Fold 1cm (3/8″) of the seam allowance and press
- Fold again 1cm (3/8″) the seam allowance and press
- Add the elastic just below the last fold and attach it on both edges
- Add a straight stitch to secure the seam allowance making sure the elastic is inside of the fold
Step 4 – Finish the top
Time to add all the top pieces together!
- Add the 3 necklace holders
- Add the ring holder and secure it with a stitch inside the seam allowance
- Add the top bag and secure it with a stitch inside the seam allowance
Step 5 – Random bag
Let’s make the little bag for random items
- Put one short and one long piece of the bag with right sides facing each other. Sew and press flat
- Attach them together again creating two little bags. Sew and press flat
- Add both bags together with right sides facing each other and sew along the top
- Turn the pieces around and press the seams flat
- Create a little channel of 1cm by making a stitch line around the edge
- Undo a little bit of the side seam where you made the little channel and introduce the cord all the way to the other side
- Run a zig-zag stitch at the bottom of the bag making sure you are catching all the layers
Step 6 – Finish the bottom
Let’s attach the bottom bag to the bottom piece
- This step is a bit difficult because of the corners. To make it easier, you can clip the edges around the corner, but be careful not to cut through all the seam allowance
Step 7 – Finish the lining
We will add the zipper to the lining first
- Lay the zipper with the wrong side facing you
- Get the box width and put the right side facing the top of the wrong side of the zipper. Run a straight stitch
- Do the same for the other side and press the seams flat
- Put the full box width and the zipper part right sides together and run a stitch vertically
- Do the same for the other side and press the seams flat.
- You can run a stitch on the right side to keep them in place
- Add the top and bottom parts (have the zipper open for this step) to the box width.
Note: This step is quite difficult. To make it easier, you can clip the edges around the corner, but be careful not to cut through all the seam allowance
Step 8 – Finish the main structure
We have to do the same we did for the lining but with the main fabric. This time, instead of adding the zipper, just fold the seam allowance inwards to account for the zipper later on.
Step 9 – Earring holder
This pattern includes individual pieces to organise your long and flat earrings.
- Put the two pieces with right sides together
- Run a stitch around the square leaving a small gap at the end
- Cut the edges
- Turn the piece right side out and close the little gap with a running stitch along the edge
Step 10 – Finishing touches
Now we have all the pieces ready, let’s finish the box
- Put the main box lining inside of the bas box as if it was a sandwich, with wrong sides together
- Stitch along the zipper – you can either do it with the machine or with hand stitches
- Put the foam piece at the bottom of the box, next to the random bag and secure it with some stitches by hand
And there you go! You now have finished the free jewellery box sewing pattern instructions and have the perfect sized Jewellery box!
